Local Venues & Things to Do
Dorset has retained its historical rural feeling and is a favourite setting for weddings, retreats, leisure and holiday breaks.

Stockbridge Farm Barn has become increasingly popular as a beautifully restored venue for wedding receptions, banquets and catered functions.

National Trust Properties – Dorset and Somerset have many beautiful NT houses and gardens including Montacute House, Stourhead, Barrington Court, Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacy and Lytes Cary Manor. Longleat House and Safari Park (approx 40 minutes away) is a fantastic day out; the house is an Elizabethan beauty and is open to the public and the safari park will keep the children busy all day.

Sherborne – historic abbey town, boasting two castles. A shoppers paradise with fabulous delicatessens, bakeries, coffee shops and restaurant. Market every Thursday and Saturday.

Studland Beach and Nature Reserve – is approximately an hour away. A wonderful sandy beach with great sand dunes to play in and a haven for nature and wildlife.Take in Corfe Castle on the way.

Iron Age Hill Forts – there are three Iron Age hillforts within easy reach of us. All good for walks and exploring. Eggerdon Hill, Maiden Castle and Cadbury Castle.

Stourhead – 30 mins away. One of the finest 18th century landscaped gardens in the world. Beautiful lakeside paths with classical temples and grottos. Take in King Alfred’s Tower at the same time.

Cerne Abbas Giant – beautiful walks around this chalk giant carved into the hillside, then walk around the pretty village of Cerne Abbas and lunch at the New Inn.

Abbotsbury – the swannery, sub-tropical gardens and children’s play barn and farm make this a great family day out.

Bath/Bristol – Yetminster has a small train station (at the other end of the village to us) which connects us with Bath and Bristol in one direction and Weymouth on the coast in the other direction. The train ride to Bath takes approximately 1.5 hours through beautiful countryside and stops right in the middle of the city.

There are many other beautiful gardens to visit through the National Garden Scheme. The Dorset Arts Week runs from 29th May to 1st June where local artists exhibit their work at numerous locations around the county. The art is very varied and of a very high standard.

We have gathered together a large selection of touirst information leaflets detailing many more local attractions.
